Fast, Easy, Accurate
Although the Callaway LR550 has a very loud and obnoxious bright yellow color (white is also available) with a single button operation it quietly zones in quickly to the desired target. At least if you drop it playing golf at night you won’t have a problem spotting it in the dark.
There are two targeting modes to choose from:
Nikon’s First Target Priority Mode – this let’s measurements range straight to the flag even with backgrounds full of brush and such.
Scan-mode – by keeping the button pressed down for up to 20 seconds you can pan the LR550 continuously to check out differently targets like bunkers and doglegs.
Also the accuracy of the LR550 is within a half a yard / meter so if you’re really picky this is for you. Most other golf range finders are within a single yard, plus or minus.
Light and Compact
The Callaway LR550 rangefinder made by Nikon is light, weighing in at 6.3 ounces (without the battery) and quite compact; about the size of a couple of sleeves of golf balls. It won’t be a problem if you decide on walking around the course in which if you’re in a tournament this golf range finder is most definitely USGA Compliant for tournament play. Of course check with the local tournament rules.
Despite being so light it has a sturdy feel encasing 6x optics with proprietary anti-reflective coatings that offer clear concise images.
LR550 Q&A
Does the LR550 require reflectors on the target?
No. Reflective objects are not required to operate this device. Non reflective objects work just as well of course depending on the current environmental situation.
Is there a Slope Edition for the Callaway LR550?
No. However if you’re interested in an excellent Slope Edition golf range finder go to Amazon here. Remember though that Slope golf range finders are not legal for use in tournament play but are great for golfing with friends and colleagues.
Is there a difference between the Callaway LR550 and the Nikon 550?
No. They are just branded differently. Actually it was a smart move for Callaway to collaborate with Nikon rather than doing R&D themselves.

Mendez
“The Callaway LR550 golf range finder is has been fun and really a breeze to use. The eight second time limit gives plenty of time to find the target and the display is easily read. It being such a bright colored device I can never forget the LR550 in the cart by accident. And with it being rainproof I don’t have to worry about it getting wet. I definitely recommend to buy it.” (This review has been paraphrased for uniqueness. To see the original go to this link.)

“I tried a GPS unit (IGolf Neo), and found it’s readings to be inconsistent. I looked around for a while and found the LR550 was impressed with the quality and rapport it had as well as a decent price.
The golf range finder is light and easy to handle. Having a bright yellow color makes it easy not to forget it somewhere, especially in you’re cart. The optics adjust easily for a crisp view and the unit is useful as a 6X monocular as well… This is a quality rangefinder that will increase your confidence by making the right club choice, although it can’t strike the ball for you.” (This review has been paraphrased for uniqueness.
